A smaller city list for Arun and Mali

Arun and Mali expected to choose Berlin because it was the German city they knew best from abroad. Their remote roles gave them more freedom, while their priorities—access to parks, a second room and rail links to Frankfurt—pulled in different directions.

“We began fixed on Berlin, but the comparison exposed that Leipzig better matched our rent ceiling and the pace we wanted. The shortlist was smaller, but finally made sense.”

The City Shortlist Session did not choose for them. It gave each priority a weight, identified districts for further research and left Berlin as a conscious alternative rather than an automatic default.

A housing ceiling rebuilt around actual costs

Nadia had calculated her Cologne budget from cold-rent figures. During the Housing Search Review, we separated listed operating costs, electricity, internet, deposit cash and a margin for annual reconciliation.

Her district radius expanded along two tram corridors, while required floor area stayed fixed. The resulting search was less exciting on paper and more sustainable in practice.
